Master Recital no.2
Tanna Schulich Hall - McGill University
May 3rd 2013

As part of the Master of Music degree at McGill University, I was required to give a recital of percussion works each year. My second recital consisted three works for solo percussionist and live electronics, two of which were created at IRCAM in Paris, France, and the third called Unsounding Objects which was the result of the CIRMMT student project Unsounding objects: Control of sound synthesis mapping, extended musical performance, composition.

The goal of this recital was to showcase pieces for live electronics and percussion that were difficult in nature for a percussionist to perform without being backed by a university or research facility. I utilized my understanding of audio technologies and Max/MSP to be able to alter the patches to suit my setup and to be able to practice with the correct microphone setups. The other two pieces were acoustic chamber percussion ensemble pieces from two American composers that I personally know, Baljinder Sekhon and the late Stuart Saunders Smith.

The audio and video were not captured for all of these pieces, but below are audio recordings or video recordings that were done on different dates.

Reflecting Space III by Kenji Sakai for percussion and live electronics

Links no.11 by Stuart Saunders Smith for three vibraphones
Vibraphones - Zachary Hale, Ryan Packard, Christian Smith

Unsounding Object no.1 by Preston Beebe
Instrument Design by Ian Hattwick

Bunker by Baljinder Sekhon

Percussion - Zachary Hale, Alessandro Valiante
