Zachary Hale
is a percussionist, composer, and programmer working at the intersection of music performance and technology. He has performed with the McCormick Percussion Group, McGill Percussion Ensemble, Ensemble Paramirabo, and Ciao Rhino, with work featured at NIME, PASIC Tech Day, Transplanted Roots, SICPP, and the Atlantic Music Festival.
He holds a Bachelor of Music in percussion, composition, and electronic music from the University of South Florida and a Master of Music in percussion from McGill University. His mentors include Robert McCormick, Fabrice Marandola, Aiyun Huang, Baljinder Sekhon, Paul Reller, Michael Sidney Timpson, Marcelo Wanderley, and Mari Kimura. A CIRMMT member since 2011, he co-developed SpectraSurface and Unsounding Objects, which earned CIRMMT’s Director’s Interdisciplinary Excellence Prize in 2012.
In addition to percussion, he has studied guitar with Peter Mongaya Høgsholm and currently studies with Thomas Griggs. Based in Clearwater, FL since 2017, he is Director of Engineering at Vistrue.
